Using Microsoft Word attachments to email
If you send an email attachment using a DOC file you saved with Microsoft Word, you should be aware of the fact that the recipient may not be able to see it unless he or she owns and has installed the same or a newer version of Word.

Microsoft in the past has had free downloads of Wordview for windows users, but the last time I had checked it would only read Word 6 or Word 95 (same format) files, not Word 97 or Word 2000.

If you want the formatting that is contained in your document (fonts, bolding, etc.) you can save the documents as RTF (rich text format) or html (hypertext markup language) and hope the person receiving has all the same fonts.

If you are using Word 97 and save the file as DOC you are creating an attachment about 10 times bigger than a pure text attachment.

If all you want to do is send the text, you might also consider using cut and paste to get it from Microsoft Word into your email program.

I like a lot of things about Microsoft Word and use it regularly.  Over the years I have purchased versions 1.0, 2.0, 6.0, 95, and 97, but still use version 6 by preference.  One thing I do not like about Word is the fact that the formats get changed regularly with upgrades (Word 97 originally could not even save a file in Word 6/95 format).
